Here is a plain answer. An AI agency is a company you hire to bring AI into your business. The name covers many kinds of companies. Four kinds you will see most:
The four kinds
AI agency (builder). Builds custom AI tools, chatbots, or automations for you. Usually bigger projects with a project price.
AI consultant. Studies your business and gives you a plan. You or someone else does the work after.
AI implementer. Sets up tools that already work, inside your business, and keeps them running.
Software company. Sells you a tool. You set it up and run it yourself.
Side by side
Type | What you get | Who does the work | Fits when |
|---|---|---|---|
AI agency (builder) | A custom tool | The agency | Nothing on the market fits your need |
AI consultant | A plan | You or another company | You have staff to carry out the plan |
AI implementer | Tools set up and running | The implementer | You want it done and kept working |
Software company | A login | You | You like setting up tech yourself |
Many companies do more than one of these. Ask what they actually do for a business your size.
Three questions to ask any of them
Who does the work after I sign?
What happens in month two, when something needs a change?
Do I keep my phone number and my data if I leave?
Where we fit
AI Works Hawaiʻi is an implementer. We set up tools that already work, in your business, and we keep them running for one flat monthly fee. If you need a custom build, we will tell you that in the first call.
